A unique identity

for a bold idea

Samadhi bridges the gap between premium yacht charter and a wellness resort. Positioned in the luxury segment, yet committed to sustainable tourism. The Samadhi itself is a 20-metre high-tech catamaran that sails in the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands.

The greatest reward is when your clients trust you and your expertise and come back to you with new projects. Samadhi was such a case. And because the client’s trust went far beyond a typical branding mandate, I had, for example, the creative freedom to translate the overall visual identity into a design concept for the catamaran’s interior.

The Process: Back when I started the project, the only things that had been fixed were the brand name and the business idea: in addition to the usual option of chartering the entire catamaran, the Samadhi was also to offer sailing trips and retreats where individual cabins could be booked.

I began with an in-depth market analysis and conducted several interviews. To answer the questions: Who enjoys sailing holidays? Why? How? What values are meaningful to these people? Next, the client and I held a strategy workshop. Followed by the definition of the corporate identity and the development of a sustainable brand strategy.

The brand’s visual identity is anchored in the key consideration: What makes a journey at sea so unique? It is the vastness of the sky and the depth of the ocean. The broader visual language is based on the triad of exploring oneself, nature, and life. Furthermore, the logo refers to the history of maritime navigation. It represents the fixed star in the night sky and the horizon.

The Outcome: Samadhi is the most comprehensive brand I've built end-to-end as a solo designer. The whole project stretched over far more than a year. In the end, alongside the catamaran itself – which embodies the entire visual identity – the project delivered all the typical components of a branding project: a website, a corporate brochure, stationery, customised travel guides, several flyers and invitations to events, apparel for the crew, a social media concept and, of course, a style guide.

Following multiple successful years, the catamaran was recently acquired by a large travel operator – its strong brand made it a valuable asset. My client is now setting sail towards new, ambitious projects.
